Atossa Genetics is Hangin' By a Thread (ATOS)

I have little doubt that what I'm about to say could inflame some fans and followers of Atossa Genetics Inc. (NASDAQ:ATOS). But, I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't call 'em like I see 'em. So, here goes. ATOS is on the verge of a substantial meltdown. It's possible the stock could circumvent this pullback, but the odds don't favor it.

If you've never heard of Atossa Genetics, don't sweat it - you're not alone. The $63 million company only went public in November of last year. The stock got off to a surprisingly good start following its launch, moving from an initial price of $4.55 to a peak of $12.40 by March. But, that's when the usual post-IPO tendency started to kick in, pulling ATOS back the $4.00/$5.00 range, where the bleeding apparently stopped.

As veteran IPO investors can attest, though, it's unusual for a new stock to not dip deep into the red ink within the first twelve months of being issued, which means ATOS is near overdue for a sizeable move lower. And, the shape of the chart says that dip from Atossa Genetics may be just around the corner if the bears can just take one more poke.

The good news is, a support line has developed at $4.29. That's close to where ATOS found a bottom in early June, and then again in early August, and then once again in mid-August.

5 Best Logistics Stocks To Watch For 2016

That's bullish, on the surface, but in this case, may not mean much. While Atossa Genetics may have a horizontal support level in place, you can also see the stock's being pushed lower by the 20-day moving average line. The support and resistance lines are on a collision course too, and soon - very soon - something will have to give. Given the broad picture, it's apt to be the floor that buckles, which will jump-start a wave of pent-up selling pressure.

Yes, it's possible ATOS could push its way above the 20-day moving average line and all this pent-up energy could turn into bullishness instead. It's just the less likely of the two outcomes, however. After three quarters of the scrutiny that only being publicly-traded can bring, the natives are getting restless. The company's revenue growth still only meant $330,000 in sales last quarter, and for every step forward the company makes on the revenue front, the already-sizeable quarterly loss gets exponentially bigger. The odds of the usual post-IPO "right-pricing" are growing. One nudge under the $4.29 mark could start the avalanche.

Vipshop (VIPS) rovides branded products to consumers in China through flash sales on its vipshop.com Web site. This stock closed up 9.3% to $47.89 in Monday's trading session.

    Monday's Volume: 2.17 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 645,972

    Volume % Change: 216%

From a technical perspective, VIPS soared sharply higher here right off some near-term support at $42.50 with heavy upside volume. This move pushed shares of VIPS into breakout territory, since the stock took out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $45 to $45.27 with high volume. Shares of VIPS are now quickly moving within range of triggering another big breakout trade. That trade will hit if VIPS manages to take out Monday's intraday high of $48.40 and then once it clears its all-time high at $50.43 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in VIPS as long as it's trending above $45 and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 645,972 shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then VIPS will set up to enter new all-time high territory above $50.43, which is bullish technical price action. Some possible upside targets off that breakout are $55 to $57.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Michael Lewis]

Fast-food behemoth Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM  ) wowed investors a few months back when it reported great sales figures driven by an unlikely suspect: Taco Bell. The news sparked a wave of discussion on topics ranging from whether the company has a genius marketing campaign to whether it's fueling the U.S. diabetes epidemic. Whatever your opinion, Taco Bell's recent efforts have led the company in an otherwise difficult market. For the recently completed quarter, Yum! saw a tremendous drop-off in profit from its China division. Though it beat the Street on earnings, internal comps are down compared to the year-ago quarter. Here's what you need to know about Yum! going forward.

On Tuesday, Yum! Brands (NYSE: YUM  ) will release its latest quarterly results. The key to making smart investment decisions on stocks reporting earnings is to anticipate how they'll do before they announce results, leaving you fully prepared to respond quickly to whatever inevitable surprises arise. That way, you'll be less likely to make an uninformed knee-jerk reaction to news that turns out to be exactly the wrong move.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Michael Lewis]

Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores (NASDAQ: SHOS  ) , the recent spinoff ofSears Holdings (NASDAQ: SHLD  ) and one of my top picks for a retail play, delivered a softer-than-expected earnings report that has sent the stock down more than 18 points in five days of trading. I believe the short-term discount gives investors a little bit more time to pick up this outstanding operation at a price materially below its intrinsic value. With the recent earnings release in mind, here is what you need to know about Sears Hometown and Outlets.

  • [By James Brumley]

The folks who originally said Eddie Lampert — hedge fund manager, major SHLD shareholder, and now acting Sears CEO — was mostly viewing Sears Holdings as a real estate play have since been vindicated. In addition to the spinoff of Orchard Supply Hardware (OSHWQ) in 2011 and last year’s spinoff of the relatively successful Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores (SHOS), Lampert is now finally getting serious about shedding SHLD department store units. Last year he sold or closed 46 of the company’s 1,300 or so full-line mall stores, vs. letting go of less than 10 in any year since he became a major shareholder back in 2006.

  • [By Michael Lewis]

When investors hear the word "Sears," most immediately think of Sears Holdings (NASDAQ: SHLD  ) , the Eddie Lampert-controlled real estate play that has polarized investors and analysts for years. In the value neck of the woods, much attention has lately found its way toward Sears Hometown and Outlets (NASDAQ: SHOS  ) , a business I relentlessly tout as a top retail pick. But there's yet another Sears that attracts even fewer investigators, probably because it resides north of our borders, in America's big brother, Canada. The company is called Sears Canada (TSX: SCC  ) , and it's bouncing off its 52-week lows, trading cheap, cheap, cheap. Let's take a look and see if this is the Sears you should be focusing on.

  • [By Sally Jones]

After fighting the slippery slopes of re-imagineering Sears and its spin-offs, including the troubled Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH, OSHWQ, OSHSQ), Lampert drastically cut his companies in the second quarter of 2013 but still holds 31.82% of Sears Holdings Corporation (SHLD) and 25.05% of Sears Hometown & Outlet Stores Inc. (SHOS), 2.23% of Gap Inc. (GPS) and 16.75% of AutoNation (AN).

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Tristan R. Brown]

Three months ago I wrote that the stock performance YTD of independent ethanol producer Pacific Ethanol (PEIX) was an "aberration", especially in light of the performance of its industry peers' shares. The discrepancy between Pacific Ethanol's share price and those of its peers has only grown more pronounced since July (see figure). Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE) and REX American Resources (REX) have continued to greatly outperform the S&P 500. Even Biofuel Energy, which fell behind on its interest and debt payments over the summer and is facing a shareholder-ruining liquidation, has seen its share price perform significantly better than Pacific Ethanol's in 2013. The oddest part about the stock's performance over the last three months, however, is that the period has been marked by multiple positive announcements from the company. It late July it reported its first positive EPS in almost two years for Q2 (0.07). Its Q2 EBITDA of $3.8 million was its highest since Q4 2011. Its current ratio is well above its previous lows, its ratio of total assets to total liabilities is increasing, and its total shareholders' equity is at a 3-year high. Despite these improvements, the company's price/book ratio is a mere 0.77.

Taliglucerase Alfa

Taliglucerase alfa is a plant cell expressed recombinant glucocerebrosidase enzyme (GCD) for the treatment of Gaucher disease. The Company has commenced pre-clinical studies of an oral form of taliglucerase alfa. Its oral taliglucerase alfa is a plant cell expressed form of GCD that is naturally encapsulated within carrot cells genetically engineered to express the GCD enzyme. Pre-clinical studies of oral taliglucerase alfa demonstrate the stability of the enzyme in the cell and the capacity of the cell's cellulose wall to protect the enzyme against degradation in the digestive tract in an in-vitro model of the stomach and intestines. Additionally, rats fed with lyophilized carrot cells expressing GCD have accumulated the active enzyme in the target organs; the spleen and liver. As of December 31, 2010! , the Company had completed Phase III Clinical Trial.

PRX-102

The Company is developing PRX-102, i ts plant cell expressed modified version of the recombinant ! alpha-GAL-A protein, a therapeutic enzyme for the treatment of Fabry disease. Fabry disease is a rare, hereditary, genetic lysosomal storage disorder in humans caused by an X-lined deficiency of the alpha-GAL-A enzyme. The Company is in the animal evaluation testing phase of the development of PRX-102, which tests are based on a mouse model for Fabry disease.

Industrial biotech isn't the only industry headed to Brazil. Protalix (NYSEMKT: PLX  ) entered into a technology transfer agreement with Brazil's Ministry of Health last week that will pay the company $280 million. The deal is big news for Protalix's first product, Elelyso/Uplyso, which was developed with partner Pfizer (NYSE: PFE  ) . The treatment is approved as an enzyme replacement therapy, or ERT, for adults with type 1 Gaucher disease, and it marks a huge step forward for the future of biomanufacturing. In the following video, Fool contributor Maxx Chatsko explains what this means for the product's commercialization and the adoption of Protalix's novel plant cell-based expression system for therapeutic proteins.

  • [By Keith Speights]

Other investors might wish that Pfizer would use some of its cash to acquire a few smaller companies. Protalix BioTherapeutics (NYSEMKT: PLX  ) has been mentioned as one possible candidate. The two companies already partner together on Gaucher disease drug Elelyso. In February, Protalix spurred rumors that Pfizer co! uld be in! terested in buying the company after it announced that it had engaged Citigroup to pursue a "broad array of strategic alternatives."

Intel's Mobile Future Lies On a Rocky Bay Trail

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Last week, Intel (INTC), at its developer forum, launched its latest family of low-power systems-on-a-chip (SoC), codenamed "Bay Trail."

The chipsets are designed to shake up the status quo in the market place, and offer improved tablet performance and battery life, tablet/PC hybrids and other mobile devices. The SoC will be available for both consumers and businesses starting in the fourth quarter of this year. Hardware manufactures such as AAVA, Acer, ASUS, Dell (DELL), Lenovo and Toshiba have already signed up to come out products supporting the new chipsets.

I recently sat down with Hermann Eul, general manager of Intel's Mobile and Communications Group to discuss what Bay Trail means for Intel as it relates to the mobile devices market.

Chris Ciaccia: "What can consumers expect in terms of performance, battery life from Intel's Bay Trail, as opposed to something that's based off Arm Holdings (ARMH)?" Hermann Eul: "Users can expect really great performance. They can expect stunning visuals, they can expect a powerful imaging engine, and they can expect wonderful battery lifetime. We already are measuring beyond 10 hours of battery life time, and our custom systems. We believe this will go a little higher, as they are in the process of fine-tuning the systems coming to the market. To this, we believe this is a very, very balanced package going into the market, and it will deliver new experiences that have not been seen at that power envelope and battery lifetime before." Ciaccia: "In terms of new experiences, can you touch on what you think will happen?" Eul: "We look at this as the market is so quickly changing. It is about us providing a platform, a powerful platform. We put a lot of work behind it, in case of our API's (Application Programming Interfaces) that we do. We put a lot of work behind it in terms of the optimization we do for any of the different operating systems that runs on this. We believe, deeply believe, that a lot of innovation will come out of this ecosystem, that then goes after it, and builds the application and comes up with new ideas that have not been possible before. This is what we want to do, lay the ground for, pave the road, that now this ecosystem can pick this performance up, and translate this into the next step that you might not have thought a year ago."

Ciaccia: "Will pricing for the chips be competitive with what's already in the market, or can Intel either undercut or charge a premium?"

Eul: "We believe the Bay Trail system, depending on how our customers position, depending on what components and what kind of quality they put behind that, we believe that we can bring this down to system price points of $199."

Ciaccia: "As far as I'm concerned, the big push is not to rely on just Windows-based machines, but also Google's (GOOG) Android-based OEM's. How important is expanding multiple OS's (operating systems) to Intel's mobile future?"

Eul: "We have a tradition of being agnostic towards operating systems, actually so to speak, forever. There has been a predominant operating system, but in the server space, it was always Windows, it was always Linux. We have a long tradition of this. Now, there's Chromebooks out, there's Windows books out. We're doing the same in the tablet space as well. We respond to what the market needs, what our customers ask us for, and we support that." Ciaccia: "64-bit chips will start to come at the beginning of next year. Is that process being sped up with Brian [Krzanich] coming on as the new CEO, or was that always the case?" Eul: "The 64-bit capability is deeply embedded into the architecture. The Silvermont architecture is 64-bit architecture. That has been developed for years. We anticipate that the market is going to ask for this. We deeply believe that this will also be big for enterprises. Enterprise systems, 64-bit will come sooner or later. 64-bit allows IT officers to manage their PC clients, their desktops, and their laptops all out of one hand. They can use all the technology that we bring, in terms of platform security, everything goes into this. As always, we believe that the ecosystem will look for 64-bit, and a must for us to do, and the market will adopt to it."

5 Best Warren Buffett Stocks To Invest In 2016

Ciaccia: "You touched on battery life earlier. When do you think we start to see battery life on phones and tablets not be a concern anymore, where you can go an exceptionally long period of time without charging?"

Eul: "We can go already in a way without charging, an exceptionally long time, sometimes as long as three weeks."

Ciaccia: "In terms of actual usage."

Eul: "It depends on the user. As we drive forward Moore's Law, every generation has a lower power consumption. Of course, we expect the 14 nanometer generations will again deliver a big, big push forward in terms of either processing power, or usage time on the battery." --Written by Chris Ciaccia in New York >Contact by Email. Top 5 Safest Companies To Own For 2015

The New York Times called it a "moment of reckoning." Widely followed commodities trader Dennis Gartman in a note to his clients wrote that he's "never...ever...EVER" seen anything quite like it.

The references, of course, are to March 15's collapse in the price of gold, the largest single-day percentage drop in 30 years, capping a two-day decline of 13%.

The selling was triggered in part by worries that Cyprus and possibly other European nations might have to dump their gold holdings to raise funds or satisfy bailout requirements. Also, after acting as a commodities tailwind for much of the past two years, the Fed's quantitative easing program looks to be winding down, which would relax inflationary pressure.

Suddenly, the "safest" investment no longer seemed so safe. In fact, there's a good chance that gold's 12-year streak of uninterrupted gains will come to an end this year.

Top Net Payout Yield Stocks For 2016: Tootsie Roll Industries Inc.(TR)

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Sean Williams]

    Leave the wrapper on
The returns on confectioner Tootsie Roll Industries (NYSE: TR  ) have certainly been sweet for investors over the past year. You have to go back to the summer of 2010 to find sugar prices that were as low as they are now, which has played a good part in helping Tootsie Roll keep that aspect of its costs down. But taking a bigger view of what's going on with Tootsie Roll and comparing that to its current valuation creates a sour taste in my mouth.

  • [By Rich Smith]

At the same time, tiny Tootsie Roll (NYSE: TR  ) may see its sales grow as little as 13% through 2016. Could it be that in the candy industry, bigger is better? Does Hershey lack the scale to compete effectively against mammoth Mondelez?

Top 5 Safest Companies To Own For 2015: Revett Mining Company Inc (RVM)

Revett Mining Co Inc, formerly Revett Minerals Inc., is a silver-copper producer. The Company owns and operates the producing Troy Mine and the development-stage Rock Creek project; both properties are located in northwestern Montana. Troy is an underground copper and silver mine. Rock Creek is a development-stage underground copper and silver project. Revett Silver owns all of Troy and Rock Creek through two wholly owned Montana subsidiaries, Troy Mine Inc. and RC Resources Inc., respectively. Rock Creek is located in Sanders County, Montana, approximately 5 miles northeast of the town of Noxon. The Troy Mine is located in Lincoln County, Montana. During the year ended December 31, 2011, RC Resources Inc. acquired eight claims (the JE claims) and staked an additional 200 claims (the Lost Girl claims) northwest of Rock Creek increasing the property position at Rock Creek by approximately 4,000 acres. Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By James E. Brumley]

If you've never heard of Revett Minerals Inc. (NYSEMKT:RVM) before right now, don't worry about it - you're not alone. The $25 million silver and copper miner doesn't have enough size to merit much media attention, and to make things more difficult, silver and miner has spent the better part of 2013 being out of favor. Yet, things are slowing changing for RVM and its shareholders.... for the better. Though a little more work needs to be done, this stock's knocking on the door of a monster breakout.

Top 5 Safest Companies To Own For 2015: Inergy L.P. (NRGY)

Inergy, L.P. engages in the storage and transportation of natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGL) in the United States and Canada. The company is also involved in the fractionation and distribution of NGL; and processing of natural gas and distribution of propane, marketing, and price risk management services to users, retailers, and resellers. In addition, it engages in the production and sale of salt products. The company owns and operates four natural gas storage facilities that include Stagecoach, Thomas Corners, Steuben, and Seneca Lake; natural gas transportation assets in New York and Pennsylvania; NGL storage facility in New York; and solution-mining and salt production company in New York. Its customers primarily include natural gas local distribution companies, electric generation companies, natural gas producers, other natural gas pipelines, and natural gas marketing companies. Inergy, L.P. founded in 2001 and is headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Matt DiLallo]

    Inergy (NYSE: NRGY  )
With operations that include a natural gas storage business as well as natural gas liquids assets, Inergy is another MLP to consider if you are on the lookout for a dividend-paying stock. There are a lot of moving parts with this company, which makes it an interesting stock to watch. The company, along with its affiliate Inergy Midstream (NYSE: NRGM  ) , is in the process of merging with Crestwood Midstream Partners (NYSE: CMLP  ) to create a company boasting increased size, scale, and diversity, as you can see below. Once the transformational transaction is complete, the company can pursue its opportunity-rich organic growth projects which should drive both returns and income growth for investors.

  • [By Dan Caplinger]

Consolidation has been the name of the game for growth in the propane industry lately, with some deals having made big changes to the industry over the past year. Last spring, Inergy (NYSE: NRGY  ) decided to sell off its retail propane business to Suburban Propane (NYSE: SPH  ) , vastly increasing Suburban's size while giving Inergy a big stake in its former rival. Meanwhile, Ferrellgas has continued its string of more modest acquisitions, with the company's buyout of privately held Western Petroleum marking the fifth purchase Ferrellgas has made since last August.

  • [By Robert Rapier]

Early returns suggest this proposition is generating plenty of enthusiasm. WhenNRG Energy(NYSE: NRGY) became the first company to spin off a YieldCo subsidiary holding solar generating assets last July, the offering price forNRG Yield(NYSE: NYLD) provided for a 5.5 percent yield at the promised dividend rate. Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Canadian Value]

To quantify the relationship between real gold prices and real yields, we can regress the price of gold from 2006 to 2013 (we used the logarithm of the real price of gold in our model) against the 10-year real yield from the Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS) market. (In our view, this regression is appropriate since gold and real yields are co-integrated and there is an economic rationale for believing they should be.) Based on our study, the regression shows that, all else equal, a 100-basis-point (bp) increase in 10-year real yields has historically led to a decline of 26.8% in the inflation-adjusted price of gold. In other words, over the past seven years gold has had a real duration of 26.8 years. (Note that this is solely an empirical duration that describes the way that gold has traded. Since gold has no cash flows, its duration does not need to be constant, and there is nothing magic about the 26.8 number. Just as the correlation between stocks and bonds varies over time depending on changes in macroeconomic variables and investor risk appetite, the real duration of gold may also change in the future.)

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Bryan Murphy]

Last week, yours truly posed the unpopular (though largely ignored) premise that EDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ:EDAP) was poised to tumble. It wasn't anything personal, nor was it a judgment call on the merits of the company. It was simply a trading-based call, observing how the rally EDAP was enjoying at the time appeared to be running out of gas, and there was no floor to halt any pullback.

  • [By Bryan Murphy]

This isn't going to be a well-received idea, given how bullish the stock appears to be at this time, but EDAP TMS S.A. (NASDAQ:EDAP) is a sell. Up 82% since the end of May, EDAP is ripe for a pullback, and may have reached the bearish pivot point as of today.

Therefore, risk and earnings growth rates will represent counteracting forces affecting starting or current valuation (PEs). This partially explains why a 3% grower (less risky to achieve) might command the same current valuation PE of, for example, an 11% or 12% grower (riskier and harder to achieve). But this is a critical point; the faster grower will generate a higher future return than the slower grower, ceteris paribas.
